Re: No Golden Road to Fitness

The greatest things that I have learned from the Atlas course is to exercise every day, and to train don't strain. By making an everyday commitment, you stay focused with your exercise, and by training not straining, you energize yourself and don't burn out. The worst mantra that has affected most o...

Crunches Or Situps

I have done situps all my life, but lately they are bothering my lower back, and I have switched to crunches. Has anyone had a similar experience?

Re: Frequency of exercises

Well, I tell you one thing, Charles Atlas was in great shape for a man of 68! I have had to quit doing 50 deep knee bends, 100 situps, and 300 pushups daily, as it got to be too much for me to do daily. I will continue to try to do high volume bodyweight exercises, but only every other day. It's ama...

Re: Frequency of exercises

Atlas and his instructions, and his lifestyle were and continue to be a beacon to those who aspire to great fitness and good living. I am glad that I answered that ad in a comic book a long time ago.

Re: Frequency of exercises

Ian, I just do the three exercises along with a 2 to 4 mile walk daily, depending on what I have to do, the weather, etc. All the best to you.

Re: Supersetting

Right, Ian. Doing the exercises circuit style, one after another with no rest in between leaves pools of sweat behind, and is a great cardio workout, as well as an isotonic one.

Re: squat challenge

The most squats that I do is 100, as my old hips can't take much more, not to mention my knees.

Re: Frequency of exercises

I'm trying to emulate the 68 year old Charles Atlas who did 50 deep knee bends, 100 situps, and 300 pushups per day. I've been doing this for about 12 days now, and it feels great so far.
