Hello,
I know that the "walking" subject have been discussed
previously in this forum, but I have to recall it again.
Here is the thing: I am living 300m from my office.
Both my home and my office are in the city.
I am working daily from 10:00 to 16:00 and from
20:00 to 23:00. I am doing DT every morning and every
night, but I am way back in the walking subject.
So I need motivation and ideas on where and when can
I walk. I hope that your walking routines will
help me. When and where do you walk?

Geosta, when I worked at an office is used to walk from my workplace to my home and when arriving home go straight into my evening DT routine. Now that I work at home, what I do is do my walking either in the morning after my DT morning exercises (which I do very rarely) or in the evening when I finish work (which is the most common occurrence). Like you, I live in a city. Thus I usually walk in the same streets which I have choosen because they are: 1) low in traffic and 2) have few traffic lights. Sometime ago, I used to take a pedometer with me to have a more exact idea of the distance covered. If you do not have one, counting blocks gives you a rough estimate.
Your office is very near your house (300m) and given your time schedule, I guess the only time you could spare walking is in the morning leaving to work. You only need to find a route which is 1.5 miles long from your home. Walk from your home to the finish point and back to home and you get your 3 miles. Shower and be ready for work! This is only an idea. If getting the 3 miles in one walk is too much, maybe you could make it in two of 1.5 miles each.

thank you for your reply.
Unfortunately I'm still unable to do the walking.
Leaving from work at 11pm means that I am not
going to sleep before 1am, sometimes 2am.
So, I wake up at about 8am, drink a cup
of coffee (I know I know, I must quit coffee...)
perform my DT routine (the vintage schedule,
now at week 4, lessons 1-2-3-4) and after
taking my cold morning shower I manage
to go to work at 10am.
I'm thinking about performing my walking
routine between 4pm and 5pm (how much
time do I need?). The only problem is that
I am sooo hungry by that time that I can't
wait to go home and eat my lunch. Maybe
I must eat something at about 2pm to
cut my hunger...
Any suggestions?

How about buying a treadmill? Then you can walk anytime at home.

I don't have a treadmill but I do have an elliptical trainer.
I just have the feeling that by not going outside there
is so much value lost (sun, fresh air, etc). Isn't so?
And of course it's more enjoyable to walk outside than
to walk still in a room.
Do you (or anyone else in the forum) use a treadmill
instead of walking outside?

Geosta, sorry for the delayed answer. Usually it takes me around 45 minutes to complete my walk.
I totally agree with you about the treadmill or other devide to jog/walk indoors. Still, it is better to use these than do nothing.

As Emfermi says, walking on a treadmill is better than doing nothing. Sure, walking in the fresh air and sunshine is best, but on days of bad weather, business or social pursuits, school or whatever, you can work in a treadmill walk. I alternate between treadmill and outside workouts, as I like the options of increasing elevation and speed that you have available on a treadmill. Sometimes I just walk in place while watching television or having a long conversation on the phone. Just do what is best for you, but get it done, as walking is so beneficial to your health.geosta wrote:Hi Bridge,

I work on a construction site with 48 lots, I walk there most of the day. But me and the wife will walk to nearby stores etc rather than take the car.

I have found that if I just am going walking I don't go very far or get a very good cario workout. However, if I have a purpose for my walk (going to the library, or the corner store) I can plan out the best route to get a full 2 or 3 mile walk round trip. With that and something to listen too, I get in a good solid walk. So for me, the trick is to have a purpose or destination.
Now what do I listen to? I have a collection of Mp3's that get my blood pumping and keep me going. And when I am not in the mood for music, I listen to audio books.
